Kargil Vijay Diwas is celebrated on 26 July every year in honour of the Kargil War Heroes. This day is celebrated in the Kargil sector and the National Capital New Delhi, where the Prime Minister of India pays homage to the soldiers at Amar Jawan Jyoti at India Gate every year. Various programmes are also organised all over the country to commemorate the contributions of the armed forces.

On this date in 1999 India successfully took command of the high outposts. The Kargil war was fought for more than 60 days and ended on 26 July 1999. The war began when the Pakistani army took advantage of the melting snow and - betraying the bilateral understanding of both the nations that the post would remain unattended during the winter season - took command of the high outposts of India. The Kargil war resulted in loss of life on both the sides and ended when India regained control over the post and ejected the Pakistani Army out of the territory.

MISSION AWARENESS

Taking into account the lockdown due to the pandemic, we the cadets of Flight-A have taken the responsibility to educate and inform the masses about Kargil Vijay Diwas through various activities conducted online. The activities were divided into three parts including an E-quiz and content creation which includes poster creation and video presentation.

E - Quiz:

One of the best ways to assess and improve our General Knowledge is by attempting quizzes. It is also a great way to share information as it is fun and challenging. The initiative to conduct the online quiz was taken up by Cdt Anwitha Pai who had included various topics regarding Kargil Vijay Diwas. The e-quiz has been a successful and informative session where all the cadets of Flight 'A' have participated.

Video presentation:

Videos are eye catching and interesting to watch, especially when there is information included in them. They are one of the best ways to inform people in a short amount of time, as they aid the viewer with catchy images and scenes to imagine and understand. The beautiful video included in this report was made by Cdt. Manish Bhat and Cdt. Joel Saldanha. The short video documentary takes us through the key events that happened throughout the Kargil war.

CONCLUSION

The KARGIL VIJAY DIWAS is observed in order to commemorate the supreme sacrifices made by the Indian soldiers during the war. It is also observed in order to pay homage to more than 500 soldiers who were martyred; and more than 1000 soldiers who suffered injuries during the war. We at 6 KAR AIR SQUADRON FLIGHT-A NCC have taken this initiative to honour the fallen soldiers, remember them and make everyone aware of their supreme sacrifices they made for our motherland.
